Language learning is a stupid activity that only idiots do because they can't do anything else with their useless lives.
TODO: language learning techniques and usefulness. Consuming content about the language, you learn grammar that you wouldn't notice otherwise if you're not excellent at pattern recognition; reading or watching a video and translating or looking each unknown word; watch videos in native or known language with subtitles in target language; flashcards; shadowing; having conversations with real human partner (impossible); thinking in head; speak spontaneously; talking about a subject, review and repeat trying to make fewer mistakes. In general try to combine several techniques. If you're disciplined and consistent you'll get to a decent level eventually unless you're very dumb. Having a native speaker of the language available everyday in person is extremely useful but also very hard to find. If you're real noob you'll have to start by learning grammar, enough to make sense of most sentences, word orders, prepositions, subordinate clauses and other shit. Watching videos in the target language is essential, you'll hear the language and get visual context. Reading is very good as well although a bit less useful and probably better if you feel relatively comfortable. Anki or other kinds of spaced repetition systems are helpful as well, if you have a smartphone use it when you have some time. Setting the language in your computer or phone can be good but not good if you're pressured to do things quickly and don't understand everything.
{ Currently for "my" third language (dutch) I use anki on my phone and sometimes watch videos and use a local zim wiktionary, google translate and argostranslate. Sometimes you can find good decks or packages for anki }
If you're a noob you should start with grammar, watch some youtube course and get some pdfs, avoid language learning "apps" with garbage ads and "exclusive" content behind paywalls that have errors anyways. You might find good resources that are like "apps" or bloated websites.
Most useful language: Depends a lot on the purpose e.g. japanese is not very useful in syria but globally speaking or on the internet they would be the most spoken ones with little english speakers.
Least useful: Languages spoken by a population number similar to the sentinelese.
Before learning another language as a pastime test yourself if you know the 10,000 most common words in your previous languages.
{ I've read before that in Europe people are forced to learn certain languages like latin, french or german in school and I was like wtf? this is non-existent here and probably in all of the americas }
Here are some languages, their difficulty (assuming you're a native english or spanish blud speaker), some details and a bit of their countries's culture and/or stereotypes:
Easy: Close linguistic roots to the aforementioned languages. Relevant: english, spanish, dutch, afrikaans. The rest is SNCA- English: You already speak english to some degree and know some of the culture on the internet. Very easy to learn as it's used everywhere. Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. In UK you shall use the king's english- Spanish: The most spoken language next to english, however not many care about this one because the narcos in mierdico or inflation in argensimia o algo. Lots of memes and slang, very useful on the internet. Mexico basically is USA but without its nice stuff and there's zero internet censorship. Almost everyone listens to banda, corridos tumbados and regueton o algo. ¿Cómo Como? Como Como Como- Portuguese: Very similar to spanish although not mutually intelligible. Brazil is the only relevant country obviously. It seems like a poor place, even worse than Mexico in average. There are very good memes- French: { Here it used to say that french is a recommended language but actually there's nothing interesting or amusing about it, portuguese is better -- at least there are memes and brazil is world power, and also just as respect for unixtopia wiki }. Used in several first world places like france, quebec, belgium (mainly wallonia), luxembourg, etc. Hard pronunciation. Many philosophy books. For some reason many women like french and france culture. Some (especially in france) are very protective of their language and are disgusted by bad pronunciation. It was niggered as most speakers actually live in west and north africa and it's also used in some arab countries, maybe good if you don't want to learn arabic. Somehow it's considered more phonetically consistent than english, has liaisons { Some time ago I was trying to find interesting and nice content in french but I haven't found much still. France is a very boring country I guess, even belgium seems more interesting. }.- Italian: Very similar to spanish. Mario bros, pizzas, mafia, sport cars- Romanian: Romance language with slavic influence. Nice- Catalan: At risk of being DNB. En ninguna cabeza cabe ningun jefe: En cap cap cap cap cap- Dutch: See article on dutch. Spoken by vast majority of population in the netherlands, part of belgium (flanders), suriname (weird accent) and some islands. Ongezellig alone makes it worth to learn this language- Afrikaans: Spoken at the west of south africa and south of namibia. Like dutch but is not. It has the distinctive feature of using double negatives like in nigger english although not the same as it's saying not two times. Removes unnecessary grammar from dutch like genders, adjectives changing depending on noun or article combination, zijn conjugation (to be), smaller pronoun system etc. It's a very simple language like english- West Frisian: The most popular language of the frisian people at the north of netherlands and germany. Very similar to english and dutch. It's at risk of being DNB- Swedish: Sweden is the origin place of the soyjak meme- Norwegian: Black metal and norse mythology- Danish: Minecraft- Esperanto: The most popular constructed language, meant to be an auxiliary global language made by a communist occulist o algo. It was a fail. Usually learned by idiots that don't want to learn a language with actual culture or lojban
Normal: Harder than the easy category, presenting new features that were non-existent before like cases. Relevant: None. Just SNCA- German: Nazi. Very complicated in grammar compared to other germanic languages, but it's the most spoken one. Germany and switzerland are oriented towards engineering, people are generally serious and reserved etc. There are many mountains- Luxembourgish: A mix of german and french with its own touch. SNCA- Icelandic: Germanic language hasn't changed in one thousand years. It has cases and weird characters
Hard: Using another alphabet, larger linguistic differences, complex grammar and/or hard pronunciation. Relevant: Russian, lojban, sanskrit. The rest have little importance or are straight SNCA { Probably some of these should go on the very hard category }- Russian: Uses another alphabet called cyrillic which can take a long time to get used to. Has 6 cases, who knows what that shit is. Still, it's kind of an interesting country as some of the people there have suffered a lot in the past and seem like they have a nihilistic view in life. Many also like to explore obscure things, see e.g. netstalking, electronic music, etc. Piracy and reverse engineering are popular { I once tried to learn russian for some weeks but it was so difficult and pointless that I just gave up }- Ukranian: Similar to russian but it's SNCA. Zaphir once said that learning this language is a waste of time and people often don't understand each other.- Belarusian: Probably SNCA- Bulgarian: There are no cases so easier to learn although still uses the cyrillic alphabet. In bulgaria everything is cheap o algo and there are bodybuilders (ever heard of bulgarian split squat or bulgarian dip?)- Czech: Extremely hard pronunciation, the same applies for most slavic languages. Nothing interesting in czech republic. Supposedly they are the least religious country of all europe because they wanted to be anti-establishment o algo but obviously failed- Polish: Polish men are femboys :3 also there originated the wojak meme (warrior). Kurwa- Latvian: Conservatives, hate trans people. Based. Still the language is SNCA- Finnish: Hi guys it's Spurdo Sparde taime kaksoispiste dededededede. Also the coffin of andy and leyley (it doesn't have a single bit of finnish doe). Has 14 cases, seems like a very hard language to learn at first but becomes easier later- Serbian: Supposedly the same language as croatian o algo but with cyrillic alphabet. There's a very nice movie called a serbian film. There's nothing interesting there and the places around it except for yugoslavia- Croatian: Serious sam- Greek: Some say that it sounds like spanish. Greeks are lazy. Hot place { I'm already used to it }- Hebrew: Kikes- Yiddish: More kikes- Turkish: ? Valuable things from turkey were stolen by the dutch- Hindi: The most important language of india. Sometimes uses words from english, very flexible. Some indians speak funny- Indonesian: Language of indonesia. The VOC colonized that place a long time ago but somehow the dutch language didn't end up forced upon their habitants. Very sad- Lojban: Constructed language designed to be completely unambiguous o algo. It has been made by a group of people over the course of decades and it's based on languages from all over the world instead of being europe-centric like esperanto. Spoken by 200 people. Only autists are interested in it- Sanskrit: An ancient language from india that is almost dead today. There was some interesting feature about it, like as if it was a constructed language (see e.g. here). It's related to religions like buddhism. Probably much better than actual constructed languages- Dzongkha: ? Seems to be the language of bhutan. Lots of big and beautiful mountains, looks like a utopia. Same with nepal
VERY HARD: Completely different languages with characteristics that make them hard to learn. Relevant: All of them except indigenous languages- Japanese: Beautiful. It has three character sets: hiragana, katakana and kanji. The last one is basically chinese. The romanization is called romaji. In japan there are many unspoken rules, virgin men, people kill themselves, many have honor and are very disciplined or something. Anime and manga are very popular. Genitalia is illegal to draw fully but it's completely fine to draw naked underaged girls and boys being raped by tentacles. Everything is smaller in japan. There are very cute and hot underaged idols. Here are some on youtube: g5N2cBDpEYs wyim2GJPPlk LcJ9GPHavCw- Chinese: If you thought english was non-phonetic be prepared for this one. Each character represents an idea and they have different pronunciations, so you have to learn every one of it. Most people can't write in actual chinese, they use pinyin. Very useful nonetheless as chinese economy is very strong o algo. There are several "dialects" which actually are different languages as there's little to no mutual intelligibility, but the one that matters is mandarin. They literally sound like ching-chong. People are always on their own and don't care about anything else around them. There's no religion, at least in the traditional sense. Porn is illegal. No famous media like anime or manga exists there. Kung fu and tai chi are scams, see Xu Xiaodong- Korean: Has english influence. Its script is called hangul. South korea: extremely fast internet, handsome asian men admired by NPC women, hackers, manhwa, toilets with super advanced technology, slavery. North korea: hunger, fear, slavery and more hackers- Arabic: Islam. There are several local dialects but the one that matters the most is modern standard arabic. It has a weird script read from right to left and words come from roots. The word for religion comes from slavery o algo { I really can't remember, but it was interesting }. If you're spanish speaker you probably have seen shitpost memes with arabic texts- Old Irish: A very important word comes from this language- Indigenous languages: There are tons of native languages that were the only ones originally spoken in many places around the world, like nahuatl, cherokee, etc. But since they are minority languages spoken mostly by tribes that live like it is 1700 then obviously they are SNCA and who knows how to master these languages as they are practically inexistent on the internet and there are few books about them. Some have incredibly hard sounds
